The Cal Baptist women’s basketball team opens the postseason today when it hosts Hope International in the first round of the National Christian College Athletic Association West Region playoffs. Tip is at 5 p.m. CBU will also host Thursday’s final. where today’s winner faces the winner of a game between Azusa Pacific and Point Loma.
The Lancers are 27-5 all-time against Hope International and have won three straight in the series, including a 71-53 win last season. They are also 2-0 against Point Loma and 2-0 against Azusa Pacific this season.
The Lancer men’s team is on the road for the NCCAA postseason. CBU is the third seed and will play at 7:30 tonight at Azusa Pacific. It’s the ninth consecutive season CBU has advanced to the postseason.
Fresno Pacific is the top seed and will host the regional finals Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with the winner of that game earning an automatic bid to the 2013 NCCAA National Championships in Winona Lake, Ind., March 13-16.
Tonight’s game is a rematch of last Thursday’s game when the Cougars defeated the Lancers 79-62 in Azusa, earning a split of the season series. The Lancers won the first meeting 81-69 on Jan. 15.
