The JC basketball playoffs are heating up and four Inland-area teams are still alive.

On the men’s side, San Bernardino Valley and Mt. San Jacinto play Wednesday in a regional semifinal at SBVC. Tip is 7 p.m.

The 15th-seeded Eagles won a play-in game against Fullerton, then upset No. 2 Ventura on the road to advance. SBVC is the 10th seed and comes off a grind-it-out win at Riverside City College.

Of the eight remaining men’s teams, three – including SBVC and MSJC – entered the tournament seeded outside the top 10. Top-seeded Saddleback, which won the Orange Empire Conference, is on the opposite side of the bracket from the Eagles and Wolverines.

The winners of Wednesday’s game will play Friday for a berth in the state championship round.

The Mt. SAC women’s team improved to 30-0 with its first-round win, otherwise the rest of the women’s field appears wide open. Palomar has the biggest win so far, knocking off No. 2 seed Ventura College, while No. 3 seed Mt. San Jacinto and No. 5 seed San Bernardino Valley had little trouble in first-round victories.

The Wolverines face a familiar foe on Wednesday when they travel to LA Valley. It will be the fifth time the teams have played this season. LA Valley won the season opener, but SBVC has won the past three matchups.

MSJC hosts No. 11 seed Irvine Valley and appears to have the easier draw on its side of the bracket, with the three remaining teams all seeded 10th or higher.
