It may not be clear how to pronounce his last name, but it’s easy to see that Houston Rockets rookie Donatas Motiejunas has become a fantasy basketball force of late.
After seeing limited time for much of the season, Motiejunas began seeing the court more after the team traded away forwards Marcus Morris and Patrick Patterson. They brought in highly-touted rookie Thomas Robinson in the trade and it was believed he would see some time right away, but it seems the Rockets are going to bring him along slowly and feature Motiejunas. After playing more than eight minutes in a game just once before the trade, the rookie has played at least 23 minutes in the past four games.
Not only has he played, he has made the most of his opportunity. In the past four games he’s scored 49 points by going a very impressive 18-for-33 (55 percent) from the field and 6-for-14 from beyond the arc. Not only can he score, the seven-footer has shown some prowess on the boards as well with 24 rebounds in the four games.
With his height and impressive shot, the Lithuanian rookie has found success quickly in the NBA. Is he going to hit 55 percent from the field the rest of the season? It would be quite a surprise if he did, but right now he is getting playing time and hitting shots at an impressive clip. He’s currently owned in just 2.9 percent of ESPN leagues but should be grabbed in basically formats. Coming down the home stretch towards the playoffs, capitalizing on hot streaks is key, so he should absolutely be added as long as you have a roster spot to spare.
