Grambling State’s basketball team just completed a regular season that was historic for all the wrong reasons.
Working with a fourth head coach in five seasons and a roster consisting of just eight scholarship players, the Tigers went 0–27 during the regular season, capped by a 74–62 loss to Alabama State on Saturday. Amazingly, Grambling’s season from hell isn’t over.
Despite their winless season thus far, the Tigers will have at least one more game, as they are still eligible for the SWAC tournament.
How bad has this season been? Grambling has yet to lose a game by fewer than double digits. It is at the bottom of the national rankings according to the RPI, KenPom, BPI and Sagarin ratings. And all of this has befallen a team who, unlike its recent predecessors in futility, was not a D-I transitional/independent hoops program.
The sooner that this forgettable 2012–2013 campaign is over, the better.
