After coaching the Lovelady Lady Lions to a (22-9) record and going two rounds deep in the playoffs, Gary Buchanan has resigned as the girls basketball coach.
Buchanan took over the program before the 2012-2013 school year started, and set lofty goals for the girls program from the beginning. The Lady Lions were ranked in the TABC Top 25 on more than one occasion this season, and finished in second place in District 20A. Under Buchanan, the Lady Lions beat Axtell 29-26 in the first round of the playoffs, but lost to the eventual state champion Martin’s Mill 68-42 in the Area round.
Prior to coming arriving at Lovelady, Buchanan coached a number of teams to the state tournament numerous times at many different levels, and in different states. Buchanan is just a few wins away from reaching the 700 mark, which is a rarity for the majority of high school basketball coaches.
