Poly vs.St. John Bosco highlight CIF regional basketball | PT Prep ...


St. John Bosco High celebrated all day Saturday after claiming the CIF Southern Section Division 3A boys basketball championship, its first title in ten years.

On Sunday night, the Braves’ merriment kind of came to an end after seeing the pairings for the 32nd annual CIF State Basketball Championships.

Bosco (24-6) was seeded sixth in the seven-team Southern California Regional Open Division playoffs and will host third-seeded Poly (27-3) at 7 p.m. on Friday in a first-round game. It will be a rematch of a Feb. 2 game that Poly won 60-54.

The Jackrabbits were ousted by Etiwanda in the CIF-SS semifinals, but got in on the merit of their high ranking and outstanding season. Etiwanda won the CIF-SS Division 1AA title over then No. 1 Mater Dei and was seeded first in the regional.

The second round is March 12 and the regional finals March 16 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.

Compton (20-9), which also lost in the semifinals, was awarded the No. 14 seed in Division 3 and will travel to face third-seeded Bakersfield Independence (31-1) in the first round on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The second round is Saturday, the semifinals March 12 and the regional finals March 16 at Colony High.

The Poly and Millikan girls basketball teams had their seasons extended after CIF-SS quarterfinal losses with entries into the SoCal Division 1 regionals.

The Jackrabbits (25-5) were seeded ninth and will open at No. 8 Fairfax (44-6), while the Rams (26-4), seeded 14th, will play at No. 3 Clovis West (23-5) in the first round at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Two-time CIF-SS champ Lynwood (24-5) was awarded the No. 2 seed in Division 2 and will open at home against No. 15 Bakersfield Garces (27-3) on Wednesday.

The second round is Saturday, the semifinals March 12 and the regional finals March 16 at Citizens Business Bank Arena for the aforementioned divisions.

CIF-SS finalists Gahr (22-9) and St. Joseph (19-12) made the SoCal Regional Division 3 field. The No. 4-seeded Gladiators will host Cathedral Catholic (18-10) in the first round Wednesday, while the No. 16 Jesters will play at top-seeded Alemany (27-5).


The second round is Saturday, the semifinals March 12 and the regional finals March 16 at Colony High.

The winners of the SoCal and NorCal regionals will meet in the CIF State finals on March 22-23 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.
