Game Of Thrones Season 3 Cast and Show

ABOUT THE SHOW

"Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. ...

"As Blackwater Bay cools [after the end of http://gameofthrones4.blogspot.com/Season 2], the victors consolidate their power and rebuild King's Landing. But new challengers for the Iron Throne rise from the most unexpected places. Characters old and new must navigate the demands of family, honor, ambition, love and – above all – survival, as the Westeros civil war rages into autumn. ...

As season three begins, the Lannisters hold absolute dominion over King's Landing after repelling Stannis Baratheon's forces. Yet Robb Stark, King in the North, still controls much of the South as well, and has yet to lose a battle. In the Far North, Mance Rayder has united the wildlings into the largest army Westeros has ever seen. Only the Night's Watch stands between him and the Seven Kingdoms, but nobody knows what happened to its Lord Commander and the force he led beyond the Wall. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen – reunited with her three growing dragons – ventures into Slaver's Bay in search of ships to take her home and allies to conquer it."

Will 'Reply 1997′ season 2 be about basketball? | KPop and JPop ...

Fans are already looking forward to the sequel of ‘Reply 1997 ‘, which swept the nation last year!

There are numerous rumors about season 2 already, and one popular tidbit is that the new season will be centered around basketball. However, cable channel tvN reported, “There is nothing that is confirmed. Currently, the staff of ‘Reply 1997′ season 2 is collecting data that would resonate with memories. The basketball story seems to have come up while the data was being collected. The staff is currently talking to people about the sports and culture popular in 1990, and some of the people that they contacted are the fan club members of basketball stars.

He added, “Season 1′s PD Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung are working on season 2 of ‘Reply 1997′. It’ll air in the second half of this year. Right now, it’s hard to say anything is confirmed as season 2′s main theme. Various songs, movies, dramas, and sports were popular in the 90s. There is nothing confirmed on what the staff will choose to make the drama with. The staff are also flustered because people are saying it’s been confirmed as basketball when we don’t even have the synopsis for season 2.

How does a ‘Reply 1997′ about sports sound?

Full Court Press: The dumbest rule in sports | TheNews.org

Ryan Richardson, Online Editor

Ryan Richardson, Online Editor

All football players know they will be roughed up during a tackle, just like all baseball infielders can assume they will get a few cleats in the shin when a runner slides into the bag.

So, it is only logical for basketball players to expect to receive a few elbows to the face when an opponent swings their arms. That is why the Flagrant 1 foul is the dumbest rule in sports. It is detrimental to NCAA basketball.

I get that the point is to eliminate concussions and other injuries caused when players swing their elbows to earn some space.

The original intentions of the rule are respectable, but I constantly wonder if anyone thought of the consequences. The negative effects far outweigh the supposed improvements to the game.

Let’s start from the beginning. According to the new definition, a Flagrant 1 foul essentially occurs when a player swings an elbow and makes illegal contact with an opponent above the shoulders.

The problem with this is it is very hard to distinguish what contact is illegal and what contact is acceptable. Sure, the officials are veterans, but judgment calls do not get easier over time.

The referees are not the problem. It is the rule itself. The rule is vague in definition yet severe in penalty, as the offended team gets two free throws and possession of the ball. In some cases, even the most routine basketball plays are now illegal.

Take, for example, a play during the NCAA tournament. During a drive to the basket, a Pittsburgh offensive player’s elbow hit a Wichita State defender in the face.

Honestly, it was the defender’s fault – he had nearly fallen down when the player drove by, so his face was unusually low – but either way, it was a routine basketball play. No ordinary foul was committed, and especially not a Flagrant 1.

But, I do not place any fault on the officials. They are only trying to enforce this nonsense rule, which leads to another aspect that maddens me.

In case you have not watched basketball, it is a pretty fast-paced sport. A single call can change the outcome of the game.

When officials suspect a Flagrant 1, they all head over to the TV monitor to watch the play again. This would not be a problem, except it takes several minutes for each review, and potentially affects who comes out with the win.

Teams lose momentum. Players cool down. Coaches heat up. Fans lose interest and cheer less. The entire atmosphere changes, all because of a poorly worded rule.

As a former basketball player, I feel 100 percent comfortable saying this rule is 100 percent stupid.

I have been hit in the head more times than I can count by a random elbow flying through the air.

But guess what? I expected that to happen. I mean, it is freaking basketball. It is a contact sport. There will always be some incidental contact. Players know it. Coaches know it. Fans know it.

So, the NCAA needs to get rid of the rule. Trust the officials to do their jobs. They know how to call a foul and keep the game safe.

Trust the athletes to take care of themselves and not intentionally hurt others.

Let them play ball. Let them have fun. Isn’t that the what the game is about, anyway?

Column by Ryan Richardson, Online Editor.

Brittney Griner Doesn't Need NBA

I want to see Brittney Griner in a Phoenix Mercury uniform this summer. It’s not for selfish reasons either.

It means the talk that has dominated many basketball circles this week has been just that, talk. It means Griner gets to become what she’s destined to be, one of the best women’s basketball players in the history of the game in one of the premier women’s leagues in the world. It means we can appreciate her for her skill set and not as some sideshow.

Griner doesn’t need the NBA, even if a certain NBA maverick really does want to give her a shot. She doesn’t need the NBA just because it doesn’t have a W in front of it. If you’ve listened to the national debate being waged online and on cable sports networks, you would almost think that this is a challenge the Baylor standout has to accept and conquer to prove herself.

When you break it all down to a sound bite, or the simple “Could a woman hold her own?” questions, it devolves into something that is at least juvenile and at most borderline sexist. The offer itself marginalizes what she truly is.

This is the kind of thing that happens on school playgrounds around the country. Boys challenging girls to prove their better. But why must we compare? Why must we as a society look at Griner and immediately draw parallels between her to the opposite sex? Shouldn’t we just be celebrating her for how she revolutionized the women’s college game and for what she might accomplish in the pros?

She’s been referred to as the female version of Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal or even Bill Russell. Those comparisons are made because we haven’t seen a women’s player who has the ability and athleticism that she does. It’s because she has a chance to change the game in the way those three did. Why take a chance at greatness away, or at the very least delay the start of it, from her purely for the amusement of people who want to see and debate if ‘a girl can hang with the guys’? It doesn’t matter if she can. What matters is what she can do and the impact she can have on a world class league like the WNBA.

Griner has the power to change minds about women’s basketball. She has the ability to impact the game in a way we’ve never seen before and may never see again. She also has the chance to be one of the biggest, literally and figuratively, role models for young female athletes around the globe. So why does she need to play into the stereotypical thought patterns we’ve seen on display all week?

She is Brittney Griner, the NCAA’s single season block leader, the record holder of most dunks in NCAA women’s history, has the most block in a season in NCAA history, most blocks in the history of the NCAA Women’s Tournament, most career blocks in NCAA history men’s or women’s a national champion, the likely No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft and possibly could redefine the sport. That’s all she needs to be. Nothing more, nothing less and certainly not compared to men. Her achievements stand, very tall, on their own.

JaVale McGee / JaVale McGee and his mother ... - Basketball Buzz

America just can't get enough of Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee. From his zany plays to his athletic highlights, McGee is a natural entertainer, enough so that he can honestly be compared to a professional clown without it coming across as an insult. While the general public may not be entirely familiar with him, he's the kind of person whom people want to see once they become acquainted with his style.

So, naturally, he's going to get a reality show. From the OWN network's press release (via TBJ):

The new OWN series "Millionaire Mama's Boy" explores the dynamic relationship between former WNBA basketball star Pamela McGee and her 25-year-old son, Denver Nuggets center, JaVale McGee. Famous for being domineering on and off the court, Pamela is not only JaVale's mom, she's also his business manager, working to build an empire while trying to keep a tight rein on the glitz and girls that come with the life of an NBA star. Meanwhile, Pamela's managing her own life, which consists of her equally fabulous single girlfriends who also have sons coming up in the league. When Pamela needs someone to laugh with or a shoulder to cry on, she turns to her girls. Like Pamela, they are single mothers raising their sons while dating and chasing their own ambitions. [...

BASKETBALL: Former Big West star succeeding in NBA : On Campus

Pacers guard Orlando Johnson drives the lane during a recent game. (AP)

BY ALLAN STEELE

Nice story on former UC Santa Barbara standout Orlando Johnson, who’s found a role for himself with the Indiana Pacers.

From the story:

“The leap from a mid-major college program to the NBA is a monstrous one. Many players fall short, and those who succeed usually require patience. Johnson has done it more rapidly than anyone could have predicted for a second-round draft pick. But then what’s the big deal about improving your jump shot and adapting to the NBA game when your improbable childhood has presented so many challenges? Like your mother being murdered when you were one year old? Four relatives dying in a house fire when you were seven? The grandmother who supported your extended family dying when you were 11? Not to mention the fact the coach who had recruited you being fired after your freshman year of college, leading to a transfer, and you spraining an ankle while working out for the NBA team led by one of your boyhood idols?”

Here’s the link.

Kevin Garnett Could Return to Celtics Lineup As Soon As Sunday ...

Kevin Garnett is getting close. Really close. As the regular season winds down, Doc Rivers announced at today’s practice Garnett could return to the lineup as soon as Sunday, after sitting out the past seven games due to left ankle inflammation.

“I think he’ll be back, maybe as early as Sunday, but I don’t know yet,” Rivers told CelticsHub and other reporters. “He’s not going to do anything today. He’s doing all the running and stuff in (the team’s practice facilities) and he’ll do some court stuff without the team. And he’ll probably participate in the shootaround (Friday), but I’m not going to play him (Friday), even if he wants to play.”

Garnett was at practice today, along with Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and the rest of his teammates, as the team welcomed members of the Air Force for a visit. The team and service members exchanged words and posed for pictures, as the Air Force presented the team with a USA flag in thanks for their support during what was a very cool moment.

A few other practice notes out of Waltham with injury updates on Paul Pierce, and the newly injured Terrence Williams.

Pierce and Jason Terry (rest/old age) will get a day off from practice today. Pierce is still battling a sore right ankle suffered earlier this week. He was hobbling a little bit around the practice floor. Definitely something to monitor in the upcoming days, as the Celtics would certainly like to wrap up a 7th seed sooner than later, but they’ll need Pierce to do that, even against inferior opponents like the Cavaliers.

“We’ll see how it feels,” Pierce said. “If we played today I probably wouldn’t be able to go, unless it was a playoff game. The key right now is for us to all get healthy going into the playoffs.”

The other player on the mend was Williams. The former Louisville star suffered a dislocated right pinky during the second quarter last night. His halftime x-ray came up negative, and he had the finger taped today as he planned to try to practice and play through the injury.

Will the injury slow Williams down? Potentially. However, he’s going to do whatever he can to do to play through it.

“You gotta cut my hand off for me to actually say I’m not going to play basketball,” he said. “If you have to tape my finger with all the electric tape you can find, and I’m going to still play. So it doesn’t change. It’s not like I shoot 15 shots. I can pass still with two hands or my left hand, so it don’t really disappoint me, it just hurt.”

The other big news out of practice today was the followup admission from Rivers that Jeff Green will likely stay in the starting lineup once Garnett returns to the lineup. We’ll have more on that possibility later today, but Green’s success and consistency in the starting five has convinced Doc that this is the way to go moving forward. Whether the Celtics will go big (Bradley/Green/Pierce/Bass/KG) or small with Courtney Lee starting in place of Bass remains to be seen.

For now, Green is the starting five appears to be here to stay though.

Passion vs. Pushing it: At Hartford, basketball coaches know which ...

Coaching an athletic team takes certain talents that most individuals in this world don’t possess and that’s a fact.

It takes someone passionate enough, articulate enough and powerful enough to bring the best out of their players, to push them to new heights and have a mutual understanding between the two parties that winning is the ultimate goal.

Rutgers’ men’s basketball coach [or should I say “ex” as of this morning], Mike Rice has none of those unique character traits and is, in matter of fact, a bully. Although, the word “bully” doesn’t hold the weight it used to when Scott Farkus roamed the streets bullying kids, so instead I’ll just call Rice a more appropriate name “coward.”

Those unaware with what I’m talking about, I’ll fill you in quickly: Mike Rice had been the head basketball coach of the Rutgers’ men’s basketball team since before the 2010-2011 season. He was suspended by the university for three games last season for an undisclosed reason. Rice has been known as a hot-head, who generally lets his emotions get the best of him on the court as he has been seen going on mini-tirades on the sideline throughout basketball games. The ESPN daily show “Outside The Lines” received a 30-minute video of Rice during his practices with the basketball team a few days ago where he was shown throwing basketballs at players, cursing them out and being physical with them during practice for no apparent reason. He was fired this morning, one day after the video leaked on Tuesday.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, so that was the “undisclosed reason” why he was suspended last season. Hmm, seems appropriate, but also does firing his ass for treating human beings like dogs. Although, I’m not even sure that dogs get treated like that.

The video, which surfaced, was hard to watch. A grown man throwing basketballs at player’s heads for doing…something wrong, maybe? There seems to be no reason for his madness, which is why I think he should get a call from the nearest psychiatric ward within the next 24 hours or rent an armored truck to protect himself from the millions of people who witnessed his “coaching style.”

Boy, that wasn’t a quick summary at all, but I digress, because anymore talk of him and I’ll throw a basketball through this computer screen in anger at such classlessness.

Here at the University of Hartford, our men’s and women’s basketball teams both have fiery coaches in John Gallagher and Jenn Rizzotti, who flaunt confidence and success. The difference between them and Rice is, well, a whole lot.

Gallagher and Rizzotti are some of the most vocal coaches in the America East basketball conference, but they know when enough is enough. Sitting down and talking with both of them over the years, it’s clear they have the utmost respect for their players and see them as a second family.

Both coaches could be yelling on the sideline at the officials or at their players to get a message across, but that’s where their boisterousness ends. They respect the officials and love their players. Never have I seen the coaches yell something inappropriate at their players or officials during games that would require censoring or reprimanding from the athletic director. That’s now what they represent.

Rizzotti has played enough college and professional basketball in her career to know that the game demands respect, and so do those who you play with and against. Gallagher radiates confidence and has a strong relationship with his players that comes with trust.

The University of Hartford hired them for a reason and are paying them what they are because they not only bring success on the court, but have pride off it. The day I were to see either coach put their hands on a player is the day hell freezes over. Granted, I don’t attend their practices and am not at every road game, but it just speaks to their class that I can make such claim to their incredible character.

Hartford may not bring in the revenue that Rutgers’ athletic department does, but it dominates in the most important value: class.

For the athletic director to continue to allow Rice to coach as long as he did, even after watching the videos of his practice antics is stunning and speaks to something much larger about what Rutgers’ values.

That will never happen at the University of Hartford, because although we have two coaches who aren’t afraid to give their all on the court, once the buzzer sounds, they remember that their players are human.

Stay classy Hartford.

The Towerlight » Niki Geckeler is new women's basketball head coach

Christopher Curry/ The Towerlight

Towson athletics announced Thursday afternoon that Niki Geckeler will be Towson’s new women’s basketball Head Coach. Geckeler previously held the same position at Howard University in Washington D.C. for the past five years.

Geckeler led the Bison to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and has reached postseason play three times, according to a media release.

“When we started this search, we went in search of a coach that would possess the characteristics needed to build the Towson women’s basketball program into a perennial force in the [Colonial Athletic Association],” Waddell said in the media release. “Niki is just that person … a leader and a winner. She has shown leadership throughout her career as both a player and now as a coach. With her energy and passion for the game, she has recruited great students and athletes and transformed them into championship programs. We are very fortunate to welcome her to Towson.”

At Howard, Geckeler had a 100 percent graduation rate and in the last two seasons, two of her players ranked in the top 15 and three ranked in the top 35 in the nation in points per game, assist/turnover ratio and assists per game.

“I look forward to reigniting the excitement which will become synonymous with lady Tiger basketball,” Geckeler said in the media release. “Through hard work, commitment and discipline we will restore the roar.”

NBA Basketball Betting Picks: Rockets vs Trail Blazers - Island Casino

The Rockets are now safely ahead of the Jazz and more than likely will secure the 7th seed in the Western Conference. They can relax a little but cannot afford to take a nap because there are still 9 games left and they need a few more wins on their side. They have to look for a defensive spark, something that always helps them to get a stop when they need it in the closing parts of games. We all know they can score but sometimes the game is won with defense.

Portland got those two wins over Houston early in the year, when they still were relevant but as the past few seasons have gone by, they seem to die out quick, like a candle in the wind. They have a good solid group of young and experienced veterans but they need consistency in their game. They need to stick with their game plan and keep the intensity on high if they want to really make a change and get to that next level.

Your inside scoop:

The Trail Blazers are riding a 5 game losing streak so it’s understandable why the Rockets are coming into this game -6.5. After watching the Blazers play their last few games at home I see that they have an overall problem with interior defense and offensive rebounding. They still win more than they lose at home but the games they have lost at home have been to playoff contenders and the Rockets are just that. Take Houston as they will even up the overall series at two games apiece.
