PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A former Providence College basketball standout told police that two gold Rolex watches and a 55-inch television set were stolen from his Dante Street apartment during a weekend break-in.
God Shammgod, a former McDonald’s All American who starred on the 1997 Friars team that advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament, also reported that an Apple Macbook Pro was taken from his bedroom.
According to the report, police found pry marks on the located on the door to Shammgod’s apartment. Officers also found Shammgod’s bedroom “to be in disarray with all dresser drawers open and the two Rolex watch boxes located on the bed.” The total value of the items reported missing was $5,500.
Police reported recovering a tan and black laptop bag that Shammgod said he had never seen before. No arrests have been made.
Shammgod was selected in the second round of the 1997 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards, but spent most of his professional career playing overseas. He is now a graduate assistant for the Providence College basketball team while he completes his degree, school spokesman Steven Maurano told WPRI.com.
