Boys basketball wins district title for second year in a row

The Borah boys basketball team defeated Rocky Mountain 33-29 Feb. 22 to become the 5A Southern Idaho Conference (SIC) district champions.
The game started out tough for the Lions, as junior Isaiah Wright sat out part of the first quarter because of an injury. The team trailed at the end of the first quarter, 11-6. In the second quarter, the Lions intensified their defense, and at halftime led 18-16. Although the lead passed back and forth between the two teams, Borah pulled out the win and became district champions for the second year in a row.
Now the Lions will head to the state tournament and play Madison Feb. 28 at the Idaho Center at 6:15 p.m. The state tournament is Feb 28 – March 2.
Ending the regular season with 17 wins and 1 loss, the team headed to the district tournament and accomplished its goal of making it to the state tournament.
The team’s first battle in districts came on Feb. 12 against Boise, who had a 5-13 regular season record. Although many expected the game would be an easy win for the Lions, members faced a determined Boise team. Borah pulled out the win, however, defeating Boise 52-48.
The boys second district game was against Centennial, a 9-9 team. Although the first quarter was close, with Borah up 18-17 at the end of the quarter, the Lions built a consistent lead, winning 56-39.
