Men's Basketball: Last Second Bucket Beats Terps 73-71 « WMUC ...

By: Dan Aburn

Maryland watched a late second half lead disappear when Florida State guard Michael Snaer drained a 3-point shot with 1.1 seconds remaining to lift the Seminoles 73-71 over the Terrapins Wednesday at the Tucker Center. The Terps fall to 15-6 overall, and 3-5 in the ACC.

Snaer’s game-winner capped off a 19 point performance by the Florida State senior, who also sunk a game-winning three on January 24 against Clemson in the final seconds.

The Terps were once again plagued by sloppy play and turnovers in the first half and Florida State had an answer for every Maryland run. The Seminoles closed the gap in the final minutes of the first half, and both teams went into the halftime break tied at 34.

The Terps came out in the second half with an explosive offense, including two early 3-pointers from Logan Aronhalt. But it was Dez Wells who truly shined for the Terps, finishing with 19 points. It was Wells two 3-pointers late in the game that appeared to put away the win for Maryland, but Florida State battled back, gaining a crucial rebound after a missed dunk by Alex Len that set up Snaer for the game-winner.

Len, who saw foul trouble early, was limited in minutes played and was held scoreless in the first half. Len finished with four points and five rebounds. Aronhalt finished with 12 points and Freshman Charles Mitchell contributed with 10.

The game will be seen as a lost opportunity for the Terps, who continue to remain on the NCAA tournament bubble. The Terps face Wake Forest at 2 p.m. at home on Saturday at the Comcast Center.
