Breanna Stewart has nine points, four rebounds and two blocks to lead the Huskies. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has eight points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
UConn is shooting 38.9 percent from the field. Maryland is shooting 30.3 percent.
The Huskies used a 13-3 run to open a 21-6 lead with 8:47 left in the half. They then used a 12-1 run to open a 35-21 lead with 56 seconds left. But the Terrapins closed with a 6-0 run.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma was hit with a technical foul with 7.5 seconds left in the half after a brutal no-call on a drive to the basket by Kelly Faris. Alyssa Thomas made both free throws and Tianna Hawkins followed with a 3-pointer for Maryland.
Thomas (four rebounds) and Katie Rutan each have six points for Maryland.
