Dallas Mavericks PF Dirk Nowitzki has always been one of the most popular names in fantasy basketball , but off-season knee surgery caused his draft stock to plummet this winter. He missed the first 47 games of the season and at some point was an albatross in leagues with no IR spot.
Dirk returned to action on February fourth against the Oklahoma City Thunder . The forward played in 27 minutes in the 112-92 loss and only managed to score 10 points. It was his first game back, though, so naturally he was a bit rusty.
Here we are in the first round of the playoffs and Dirk is once again looking like a pretty strong fantasy contributor. The 11-time All-Star has scored 17.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.6 three-pointers over his last eight games.
Let’s take a quick look at Dirk’s schedule this week:
2/26/2013 – Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers
2/28/2013 – Dallas Mavericks vs. Indiana Pacers
2/30/2013 – Dallas Mavericks vs. Chicago Bulls
Dirk is getting healthier and gaining more confidence with each game, so you can expect him to start putting it all together in the playoffs. He will be a must-start in the final weeks of the season and the superstar will finally start showing fantasy owners what they were missing all year.
Expect Nowitzki to average over 18 points and 10 rebounds per game in the first round of the playoffs and help many owners reach the next round.
