Zuidema, who set the Grand Rapids area record with 84 3-pointers, also was named to second-team all-state by Bank Hoops, a ranking compiled by Michigan high school basketball guru Steve Bell. He was also named to the OK Silver all-conference team.

“Any time he’s within the volleyball line, he can knock ‘em down,” NorthPointe coach Jared Redell said earlier this season. “A lot of teams aren’t ready to guard someone who shoots from that far away.”

The 6-foot-2, left-handed sharpshooter also tied an area record with 10 3-pointers in a game when he scored 42 points in a 73-64 win over Detroit Westside Christian on Feb. 2. He scored an amazing 26 points in the fourth quarter to help the Mustangs rally to win the game, which was held at Davenport University.

“There were a couple of them that were like the “oh nos” and and “yes!” when they went in,” Redell said after the game. “But when he’s shooting it like that, I have confidence in him taking it.”

Zuidema also reached the 1,000 point mark in a district win over Wellspring Prep.

Zuidema finished with 419 points for an average of 18.2 points per game. He also averaged 2.7 assists.

NorthPointe finished above .500 for the second year in a row with a 12-11 mark. The Mustangs’ season ended with a 79-59 loss to Calvin Christian in the district championship game. Five of the losses were to two teams. The Mustangs lost twice to Godwin Heights and three times to Calvin Christian. Both teams were ranked in the state all season and combined for a 43-6 record. NorthPointe also suffered three overtime losses.
