UCLA Basketball Will Reportedly Hire Steve Alford | KTLA 5

uclacourt

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) –UCLA will hire New Mexico men’s basketball coach Steve Alford, ESPN reported on Saturday morning.

He would replace former coach Ben Howland, who was fired this week and had been the long-standing coach at the school since John Wooden retired in 1975.

Howland served as the Bruins head coach for 10 seasons and finished his time with the team with a record of 233-107. He took the team to the Final Four in 2006, 2007 and 2008, but the Los Angeles Times reports his stock had fallen since then and needed to take the team deep into the NCAA tournament to save his job.

The Bruins lost their first game in the NCAA tournament — falling 83-63 to Minnesota.
