Now there's a rap song and video about Chaminade basketball ...

OK, I want to know if Chaminade teachers really do assign homework, because the students sure have a lot of free time to do videos and rap songs about the basketball team.

The latest is out about the Eagles' team that plays St. John Bosco on Saturday morning at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Duke basketball vs. Virginia live updates — The Blue Zone — The ...

Uncategorized

by Matt Pun on February 28, 2013 · 0 comments

Virginia 22, Duke 21 (3:44 first half): Although he missed a long, fadeaway three to avoid a shot clock violation, Cook has continued to keep the Blue Devils in the game on offense, bringing the game within four off of a floater. Curry, upon reentering the contest, knocked down his first three of the night to cut the lead to one, the closest Duke has been since tipoff.

Virginia 20, Duke 16 (6:50 first half): Out of the media timeout, Sulaimon looked like he was going to get the offense going with a quick bucket, but he fouled that up with a foul on one end and a turnover on the other. Cook, however, has hit his first two shots of the game —both threes—to keep Duke close. Curry and Mason both finally got on the board, with each hitting two of three free throws. On defense, the Blue Devils haven’t been able to stop Joe Harris from getting to the rim. He leads the Cavaliers with 9 points.

Virginia 15, Duke 4 (11:27 first half): Duke’s shooting hasn’t improved much, now at 2-11. Curry’s 0-3 to start the game and has been off the mark by a lot on two of those attempts. On the other end, the defense has finally started to slow the Cavaliers down a little, but just barely.

Virginia 9, Duke 2 (14:56 first half): Shooting 1-7 to start the game, the Blue Devils have fallen behind early. Sulaimon has their only points and he is just 1-3 so far.

Report: Baylor Bears basketball uniforms could have sleeves in ...

Are jerseys with sleeves becoming the new trend?

Before the current NBA season, there were rumors of teams buying advertisements to put on their jerseys. For now, that strategy hasn’t caught on. But sleeves may be catching on.

The Golden State Warriors debuted the uniforms a week ago, and there are reports that some college teams may get in on the new fad come March Madness.

Check out the tweet below.

Baylor is featured in its electric green uniform. There haven’t been confirmations that these jerseys are going to be worn during the March Madness tournament, but a tweet with six different teams means something is up.

If you click here, you can also see a gallery of Baylor’s uniform.

All the Bears have to do now is actually make it into the big dance come March.

What do you guys think?

Chong Scores 29 As Ossining Rolls Into Title Game - UConn ...

UConn-bound recruit Saniya Chong scored 29 points today to lead top-seeded Ossining to a 100-57 victory over fourth-seeded Ursuline in the New York Section I Class AA semifinals. Andra Espinoza-Hunter, an eighth-grader who attended the UConn-Baylor game at the XL Center with Chong Feb. 18, had 21 points.

Ossining led 38-7 at the end of the first quarter.

“We know we have the best team, we have to get out to fast starts,’’ Ossining coach Dan Ricci told The Journal News. “The only way we are going to lose is if we get outhustled or outworked. We feel we have the most talent. That’s what I tell my kids, `Get out fast, impose your will and everything will fall into place.’’’

Ossining will be looking for its third straight Section I Class AA title when it meets second-seeded Lourdes in the championship game Sunday (2 p.m.).

Boys' basketball: Rolling Hills Prep takes 5A title - latimes.com

Jimbo Lull is only a sophomore, but on the court he plays with the poise of a senior.

The 6' 11" center had 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks and Rolling Hills Prep closed the game on a 17-2 run and captured the Southern Section Division 5A championship with a 50-36 victory over Shalhevet in the first of four finals Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The top-seeded Huskies took an 8-0 lead but Shalhevet pulled to within 23-20 at halftime. After Joseph Fallas' three-pointer gave Shalhevet a 34-33 lead, Aron Rudd answered with a three-pointer to put the Huskies in front to stay, 36-33, at the end of the third quarter. The second-seeded Firehawks (24-2) did not score again until the final minute.

"He was a real force under the basket," Rolling Hills Prep Coach Mark Fancher said of Lull. "He disrupted their flow on defense and drew double teams on offense, which left other players open. He did it all."

Rudd had 16 points and seven rebounds and Eric Ambrose added 10 points and six rebounds for Rolling Hills Prep (22-8). Fallas led the Firehawks with 22 points. Center Eitan Rothman played Lull tough inside and finished with six points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for Shalhevet.

BSM girls earn third seed in basketball playoffs | Sun SailorSun Sailor

Benilde-St. Margaret’s enjoyed a productive regular season but will face a demanding challenge in its attempt to win the Section 6AAA girls basketball championship.

The Red Knights placed second in the North Suburban Conference with a 14-2 record, two games back of champion Robbinsdale Cooper. BSM carries a 19-7 overall record into the playoffs.

But three other Section 6AAA teams besides the Red Knights have achieved success in the regular season winning 18 games or more.

No. 1 seed Richfield finished 23-3 in regular-season action and is the section’s defending champion. Second-seed Chaska has 19 wins entering post-season play and fourth seed Waconia has posted 18 victories.

BSM is the third seed and was scheduled to play sixth-seed Holy Angels in the quarterfinals Feb. 26 at home. Winner of that game advances to the semifinals at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the site of the highest seed. Championship game is 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7.

Cooper defeated BSM 48-42 in a game that clinched the league title for the Hawks.

BSM’s leading scorers were Grace Coughlin (17), Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod (11) and Abby Minea (11).

Benilde-St. Margaret’s rebounded from that defeat with a 66-60 victory over Spring Lake Park Feb. 22.

The Red Knights trailed 35-28 at halftime before outscoring Spring Lake Park 38-25 in the second half.

Jackson-Sherrod led BSM scorers with 16 points. Grace Coughlin contributed 14 points and Minea had 13 points. Gretchen Sattler finished with eight points and Allie Coughlin came through with seven points.

Boys beat Spring Lake Park

Benilde-St. Margaret’s improved its boys basketball record to 7-17 by defeating Spring Lake Park 61-39 Feb. 22 in North Suburban Conference play.

Three BSM players scored in double figures — Nick Birney (12), Sam Lynch (11), Chris Bell (10) and Jack Hathaway (9).

BSM almost upset first-place Cooper 66-64 Feb. 19 in another conference game. The Red Knights led 35-31 at halftime before the Hawks rallied in the second half.

Birney scored a team-high 20 points. Matt Lilienthal netted 15 points and Colin Polarek added 14 points. Jayson Alexander had eight points.

“We have been playing pretty well,” said BSM coach John Moore. “We have made shown improvement and been competitive losing several close games.”

Slam Time For TRU Assistant Coach (KDN Article Feb 28, 2013)

Chas Kok (Assistant coach MBB Sept 12 2012) 006

Posted with Permission of Kamloops Daily News

By MARK HUNTER

Daily News Sports Reporter

Chas Kok will step right out of the classroom and onto the basketball court in April.

He’s already champing at the bit.

Kok, a former TRU forward who now is an assistant coach with the WolfPack, is set to start his second season in the International Basketball League once he is done his schooling this spring. Last year, Kok helped the Bellingham Slam to the championship in the IBL, a professional league based in the Pacific Northwest.

Kok played two seasons with the WolfPack, and earned a reputation as a hard-nosed player with a competitive streak. That competitive side continued last season, when Kok joined head coach Scott Clark’s coaching staff.

There were times when Kok looked ready to explode on the bench as the WolfPack struggled to an 8-14 record and missed the playoffs. He’s more than excited, then, to get back on the court in April.

“Absolutely,” said the 24-year-old native of Lynden, Wash. “I have a punching bag at my place – I’m always hitting it. I’m incredibly competitive.”

Although the IBL is considered the minor leagues, it’s also very competitive. The Slam’s roster is filled with former college players and others who currently play professionally overseas.

With that in mind, Kok has enlisted the help of personal trainer Kimo Jandoc in Lynden – Jandoc, a former Kamloops resident, has Kok working out.

“He has me doing some difficult workouts,” Kok said. “I do an hour and a half or two hours lifting each day, and an hour and a half or two hours working on basketball.

“I’ve always taken basketball very seriously, and training is the one thing I can control.”

Kok is currently in TRU’s bachelor of education program. He will miss the first few Slam practices due to a two-week practicum at Pacific Way Elementary, but will return to Lynden the day after his last class and will be ready to play the Slam’s first game at the end of April.

He’s looking to improve on his first season, in which he averaged 6.4 points per game off the bench. Kok likely will come off the bench again this season, but wants to be more prepared.

“My last season (at TRU), it was different – I was playing out of position (at centre),” said the 6-foot-6 Kok. “In Bellingham, I was playing shooting guard. It was a big change.

“I was a bench player — if I came in and made a three, I was getting more minutes. If I missed my first three, I might be back on the bench.”

Kok, who averaged nearly 20 points in his final season at TRU, will play behind Paul Hafford again this season. Hafford, at 28, “is getting older,” Kok said, “which is something I like to remind him about.”

After this semester ends, Kok will have a year remaining in the education program.

“This is an opportunity for me to keeping playing,” Kok said. “If it turns out I can keep playing and get my degree . . . maybe I’ll put some feelers out in the winter.”

Kok is thinking about Australia, where he could teach and play. Or, if that doesn’t turn out, he would consider coming back to Kamloops.

Adidas Unveils New Uniforms For 6 NCAA Basketball Teams ...

Adidas NCAA Uniforms

Adidas unveiled the new adizero uniform system for six of its collegiate teams on Thursday (February 28), which will be worn through the 2013 NCAA basketball postseason.

The uniforms feature adidas' advanced uniform technologies and a limited-edition camouflage print designed to make an impact on the court.

Baylor University, University of California Los Angeles and University of Louisville will wear the new adizero short sleeve uniforms, which debuted earlier this month by the Golden State Warriors, while the University of Cincinnati, University of Kansas and University of Notre Dame will wear the adizero sleeveless uniform system.

"The adizero uniform system gives players the leading performance technology with a distinctive on-court style," said Chris McGuire, adidas Director of Sports Marketing. "The NCAA postseason brings together the best teams in the country and these uniforms celebrate the excitement of the game letting players stand out during college basketball's biggest moments. These programs will wear the most innovative basketball uniforms and footwear to help them elevate their game during the most important time of the year."

Designed for a bold on-court look and engineered to enhance player performance by improving fit, comfort and mobility, the adizero short sleeve uniform system is made from 60% recycled materials and features FORMOTION technology for comfort and maximum mobility during shooting and dribbling. Jersey armhole insets with 360-degree stretch fabric promote free range of motion for the arms and shoulders.

Both sets of uniforms feature the brand's quick drying Revolution 30 technology, found in current NBA uniforms and ClimaCool zones, which move heat and moisture away from the body to keep the jersey light and dry during heavy sweating. The super-lightweight woven short is designed for improved breathability and a closer, more comfortable fit with compression base layers.

The adizero uniform system also features the latest adidas Team Speed sock with built-in compression for stability and CLIMALITE moisture wicking technology designed to keep the foot cool, light and dry throughout the game.

To compliment the set, players will wear the Adidas Crazy Fast basketball shoe, which boasts a new SPRINTWEB design that features tighter panels on the upper to improve support, reduce weight and make players quicker and more comfortable on the court.

The uniform's limited-edition design and coloring is created for this season's NCAA basketball postseason run. The impact camo pattern is designed to let players stand out on college basketball's biggest stage, while patches on the jersey backs feature school specific detailing to pay homage to team spirit and pride.

Teams will suit up in the adizero uniform systems beginning with conference tournament play March 13-17. Fans can pick up team gear at Adidas.com and campus bookstores.

Buzzer Beaters: 3/4 Court JV Basketball Shot After the Buzzer, 9 ...

This is from a junior varsity basketball game between John Glenn High School and Culver Community High School in Indiana. The video starts with a kid from Culver banking in a free throw to put his team up 32-31. John Glenn then gets a basket and a foul with less than a second remaining. One player runs on the court. Culver players are confused and at least one referee doesn’t know what to do. The John Glenn player misses the free throw and a Culver kid buries a shot from below his own free throw line after the buzzer sounds. It is ugly, beautiful and amazing, all at once.

If that wasn’t good enough for you, here’s a 9-year old throwing it in from beyond half court.

And here’s a kid banking in a semi-alley-oop 3-point buzzer beater. There are too many of these for them each to get their own posts.

Finally, here is your girl power buzzer beater of the day. 7th Grade girls basketball looks intense. You can tell because of the amount of skipping.

BBN Basketball LiveBlog: Northwestern Part Two

Riding a two game win streak, including last Sunday’s great win over the Spartans, the Buckeyes are now facing what may or may not be an extremely dangerous test – the Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Illinois. The pretty kitties have a tendency to play tenacious basketball at home, and the Bucks haven’t always done so well against the Princeton Offense, but the sheer quantity of injuries to the ‘Cats might make it difficult for them.

Join us and The Buckeye Blog, Buckeye Empire, Men of the Scarlet and Gray, and Buckeye Ninja as we help our good friend Bo Ryan learn to Deal With It.

Today’s game is scheduled for 7 PM EST on the Big Ten Network. The LiveBlog is scheduled to start 15 minutes before tip.

More From Practice: White's Transcontinental Journey, T-Will's ...

Ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with the Golden State, the Celtics practiced in Waltham today and for the first time we got a look at DJ White, who will likely make his Celtics debut against the Warriors. White gives the Celtics a desperately-needed big body to reduce the burden on Kevin Garnett and the rest of Boston’s frontline.

White joked that his experience playing in China’s CBA went more smoothly than Terrence Williams’ because he was playing in a Shanghai, a major metropolitan center, and Williams played in “who knows where.”

While White wasn’t negative about his China experience (“Shanghai’s like New York City but a little bigger”) or the lack of an appealing NBA offer at the beginning of the season (he turned out a well-worn “just part of the business” on that one) he sounds relieved to be back in the NBA, and like Williams, eager to capitalize on this new opportunity.

As Brian noted recently, White doesn’t come with a sterling defensive rep but he knows to make good on his second chance, he’ll need to pick up Boston’s defensive schemes quickly. White’s size (6’9″) and strengths (mid-range game) make him a viable candidate to steal minutes from Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox. Regardless of his immediate impact, White’s presence alone should push the underachieving Bass and Wilcox to up their games, lest they see more pine time down the stretch.

Doc Rivers said the Celtics will continue to keep an eye out for potential international roster additions and buyouts (“We were hoping some of the guys who made the All-Star Team got bought out, but none of them will”) but as the C’s take the court tomorrow night, they’re far closer to the team they’ll be come the playoffs, if still very much a work in progress.

One final note: Rivers said that while Williams’ 10-day-contract ends today, he expects the Celtics to sign him beyond that period although nothing’s been signed yet.

For the record, Redeemer's Brown is Royal | HamiltonScores

Source: Peter Reid, Redeemer Athletics | February 28, 2013

It was a big day for the Redeemer Royals women’s basketball program and its future as first-year Jesseca Brown captured the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Division Rookie of the Year award, was named an OCAA First Team All-Star, and made the All-Rookie team.

Brown led the Royals to their first win in seven years as the team finished the season with a total of six victories. She finished sixth overall in West and East OCAA scoring with 17.2 points per game. At season’s end, Brown counted 310 points for Redeemer in 18 games.

Her season included breaking the Redeemer record for points by a women’s basketball player in a season. She eclipsed Redeemer hall of famer Anita Kralt by one point. Her 17.2 points per game tied Kralt in first place with the best points per game average ever by a Royal.

Brown now holds the top two spots in the Royals record book with her 31 and 29 points this season against Niagara (the final game of the season) and Sault College. She also sits in a tie for third place with the 27 points she scored against Mohawk in the first semester.

Boys' basketball: It's a turnaround story at Sun Valley Poly - latimes ...

One of the biggest turnarounds for the 2013 basketball season has happened at Sun Valley Poly, which went from 11-17 last season to 19-7 this season under first-year Coach Alan Woskanian. The Parrots will play Hamilton on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cal State Dominguez Hills for the City Section Division III championship.

This team doesn't compare to the greatest team in Poly history, the 1961 squad that won the City title led by Hall of Famer Gail Goodrich. Poly also won an Invitational title in 1999.

But the Parrots have a trio of underclassmen at the guard position in sophomores Cesar Reyes and Brian Sanchez and junior Sal Gonzalez. They will be at a size disadvantage against Hamilton, but Woskanian has figured out how to use his guards to get his team within one win of a title.

"The two sophomores are handling the pressure well," he said.

It's old-school basketball the Parrots are playing. And it just might work.

Kim Jong Un and Dennis Rodman watch basketball game together ...

BEIJING — North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un watched a basketball game with former Chicago Bulls’ star Dennis Rodman on Thursday, Chinese state media reported.

In a dispatch from Pyongyang, China’s official Xinhua news agency said that Kim and Rodman watched a game consisting of players from North Korea and the Harlem Globetrotters, a famed goodwill team from the United States.

Xinhua, which has a bureau in the North Korean capital, cited unidentified witnesses for its account.

Rodman, a 51-year-old Hall of Famer, was quoted as calling relations between the United States and North Korea “regrettable”, though added “personally I am a friend of Marshal Kim Jong-Un and the DPRK people”.

DPRK stands for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the North’s official name.

Nicknamed “The Worm” and famed for his changing hair colour, off-court antics and dating Madonna, Rodman landed in the isolated state this week with tensions high following the North’s third nuclear test earlier in February.

Rodman wore dark glasses and a hat, Xinhua said, and sat to the left of Kim. They spoke to each other without any interpretation, according to the report.

He arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday with members of the Globetrotters on a goodwill visit to engage in “basketball diplomacy”.

Kim is the son of late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il and the grandson of the country’s founder Kim Il-Sung. He is reported to be a huge fan of basketball and the Chicago Bulls.

Rodman has been actively tweeting during the visit, saying he was looking forward to meeting Kim, that North Koreans love basketball and that he was “honoured” to represent the United States.

North Korea and the United States, an ally of South Korea, have never had diplomatic relations.

Xinhua said Thursday’s game consisted of 12 players from North Korea and four Globetrotters divided up into two teams.

The game, attended by college students, citizens of Pyongyang and foreign diplomats, among others, ended in a 110-110 tie, Xinhua said. North Korean cheerleaders in traditional dress and miniskirts performed during the break.

Separately, North Korea’s state news agency reported Thursday that Rodman and his entourage visited the landmark Pyongyang building where the bodies of Kim’s father and grandfather lie in state.

“They paid high tribute to Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il before their statues”, the Korean central News Agency said. “They entered the halls where Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il lie in state and paid homage to them.”
