A fifteenth seed has made it to the sweet sixteen for the first time in history, and it was the same Florida Gulf Coast team that kicked Georgetown's ass. About 99% of the nation will be rooting for them next week against their cross-state rivals from Gainesville.
A number 13 will join FGCU them in the next round, namely unheralded LaSalle.
(Twelfth-seeded Oregon could also be considered a Cinderella team, but they're not. They never should have been a 12th seed to begin with. They absolutely crushed a #4 and a #5 back-to-back.)
Either a #9 or a #13 (Wichita St or LaSalle) will make the elite eight for sure.
Illinois and Minnesota couldn't pull off the upsets Sunday, but the Big Ten will send four other teams to the round of sixteen.
The East bracket is the only one that proceeded according to plan. The next round will feature seeds 1, 2, 3 and 4. In contrast, the West will host 2, 6, 9 and 13. The other two groups will consist of three of the top four seeds in each case, with the upstarts being Oregon and Florida Gulf Coast.
