Slam Dunk Manga's Stage Play Planned - JEFusion

Osamu Kogure, a stage play actor, posted a blog entry which states that a stage play inspired by the Slam Dunk basketball manga is under consideration. But instead of an actual theater, the play would use a gymnasium.

If ever the play would push through, it will cast actors as well as top athletes through the Japan Basketball Association. They would be installing a screen in the gym to play pictures of Slam Dunk scenes with a soundtrack using voice actors. A live band will also be featured playing an entirely new score.

The Slam Dunk manga is one of the reasons why basketball became popular in Japan, and with that, JBA awarded original author Takehiko Inoue a special commendation.

Slam Dunk tells the story of Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent freshman student who were rejected by girls fifty times. He then get attracted to Haruko Akagi, the sister of the basketball club captain Takenori Akagi, and introduces him to his first ever sport, basketball. And to get close to her, he decided to join the Shohoku basketball club.
